My Commercial

As of today, my group and I are finally done with our project. We worked together well, and created a commercial that I can be proud of. We ran into a few struggles. Lack of storage space on the designated person's phone and a bad setting set us back in the beginning. We eventually got all of our scenes filmed and edited without much issue. We could have spent more time editing the commercial using better software though. This is to be expected though because it was our first time doing a project like this, and we wanted to stick with software that we were familiar with. If we were to do this again, I would make sure that we went out of our comfort zone by using different software. At the end of the day, I am proud of our commercial and would like to work with this group again.

Editing 2

Image
Today in class, we finished editing our commercial. The commercial is about abcmouse.com . We knew that we wanted to edit it to make it look like a real commercial. We watched real ABC mouse commercials and took notes of how they were edited. We then tried to replicate that in ours. We noticed that they used multiple camera angles. They used high shots, close-ups, and eye-level shots. When editing, we used clips that had different shots in them. We also paid attention to the music and sound effects. In our commercial, we attempt to use these sound effects and music to achieve the same goal. We noticed that they used voice overs in the commercial. We are considering doing the same. Ayden recorded one video with the voice over, and one with music playing. When editing, we use the small details to try and get closer to the real ad while giving our own spin on it. We trying to make our commercial appealing to children and adults alike. As a group, we had to go through and look at the...

Editing

Image
Today in class, we started our film editing. As a group, we looked over all of the short video clips that we had recorded and chose which ones we might want to keep. We looked over the films from all of the locations. Originally, we went to the senior courtyard to shoot. The courtyard ended up being too bright, and the glare off of a computer screen did not allow us to properly film. There was also bright yellow caution tape behind all the action which was distracting. We could not find a way to edit any of this out or work around it. After thinking about it, I came up with the idea to go to the media center. In there, we had a well lit room that was not overbearingly bright. The room was also quiet. This allowed us to record voice overs and other sounds for our editing. The reason I bring up the locations is because they played a key role in whether or not we could edit the commercial properly. After the library, we spent the next class out on the track helping other classmates ...

Filming Pt 2

Image
Today in class, our group finished filming for our project. We went to the media center and recorded our final segments. After that, we went out to the field to help some classmates film their project. Their project was on converse shoes and they used many shots showing how versatile they are. In one of the shots that I helped them record, Sydni held a football while Lily kicked it. Lilly's kick was way off, but the shot was only of her foot hitting the ball and not about where the ball went. While filming, we discussed with the other group different techniques and styles to use while filming. Once done with helping them, we talked about how we could improve our commercial. we stayed outside for at least an hour. It got to a point where we could not bear the heat any longer. We headed back inside and finalized the selection of shots to keep. We will edit the commercial next class.

Filming

Image
On Thursday the 30th, I started filming with my group. All of the group's members were here, so no role changes were needed. After we got our pass, we headed out to the senior courtyard. Once we got there, we realized that it was too hot and too bright to film. The glare of the sun on the computer screen made it impossible to see. Like my planning blog stated, if we were unable to record outside, we would record in a classroom. No empty classrooms were available so we filmed in the media center. luckily, there was no more testing. In the film, I play the role of the teacher, Trevor plays the role of a student, and Ayden plays the role of a helpful student who introduces the product. Depending on who was in the scene, Ayden and I would take turns filming and operating the camera. Before filming, we made sure that the area was clear of anything that would not be seen in a classroom. The props that we included were a test with a failing grade, and one with a good grade. We also used...

My group is doing an ABCmouse commercial. In these commercials, the audience usually sees children learning on their computers through fun interactive lessons.  The children in the commercials wear normal clothes. Props include computers, teddy bears/other children's toys.  The appearance of the actors/students & parents are happy and excited representing the joy that ABCmouse.co brings to learning. The score through the commercial is upbeat instrumental music. The ads used eye level, over the shoulder and close-up shots.  The ads use lots of animations.   The ads also have many bright colors and cute animated characters to be appealing to look at.  The ads show the price and use words like "only" to show how inexpensive it is  1. The conventions and codes in ABCmouse.com are popping colors, fonts, and characters. The mouse logo is also symbolically placed in the ad.  2. Shots in the commercial either are angled to show the site on the computer scr...
