Editing

Today in class, we started our film editing. As a group, we looked over all of the short video clips that we had recorded and chose which ones we might want to keep. We looked over the films from all of the locations. Originally, we went to the senior courtyard to shoot. The courtyard ended up being too bright, and the glare off of a computer screen did not allow us to properly film. There was also bright yellow caution tape behind all the action which was distracting. We could not find a way to edit any of this out or work around it. After thinking about it, I came up with the idea to go to the media center. In there, we had a well lit room that was not overbearingly bright. The room was also quiet. This allowed us to record voice overs and other sounds for our editing. The reason I bring up the locations is because they played a key role in whether or not we could edit the commercial properly. After the library, we spent the next class out on the track helping other classmates as well as recording other scenes. During our editing process, we found that it was too bright and too loud to use any of those clips. Today’s class period was spent sorting through these clips. We accounted for lighting, sound, and anything else that would mess up the scene. The scenes on the track and in the courtyard gave the commercial diversity. However, the media center was the optimal environment for a commercial to be filmed. It is also the most reminiscent of a classroom where the interaction would likely take place. During the editing process, Ayden did a voiceover. Trevor helped edit and come up with a song to play in the commercial. The editing process is not completely finished, but we got most of it done today.
