Production blog: Filming Location

 

One of the most important things we needed for our project is a location. Because of the nature of our film, we needed somewhere somewhat stereotypical. After watching many movies about killers, we narrowed the location list down to three places. Generally, they take place in a house in a foggy area. Because none of us live in a foggy area, the next logical step was a dark, shady area. The issue with this is that it gets too dark at night and we are not able to see. After we also figured that we wouldn't want to risk safety as well, This leaves us with our final option, someone’s house. We spent a while trying to think of his house to go to. I live on the beach, giving the scene a strange setting. Max's parents were out of town, so we could not film at his house. Also, Alec does not have a good setting that we could film in. We discussed whose house it would be amongst ourselves, and we came to the conclusion of Jibril's house. According to him, he has a good place to record. This way we can record our project in a realistic setting. One thing that we discussed was lighting. The issue with filming at night is that there is not enough light to reveal the actor's face. We need to find out how to light the characters. Luckily, he lives near other buildings that give off light. He also has lights on his patio that can help us. In conclusion, we found a suitable place to film our project and we are ready to get started.

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie

  The first short film to analyze, is 9 by Shane Acker. The film is about a rag doll who lives in a miniature junkyard. In the beginning of the film, the main character is working with a friend to get a lightbulb to work. While doing this, a monster is shown to be working in the shadows. The main characters friend notices and tells the main character to run as they stay behind to fight off the beast. The main character turns around to watch their friend, get easily overpowered and killed by the monster. This monster then turns its attention to the main character, chasing it until the main character can get out of sight for a few seconds. At this point, the main character devise is a trap to jump on top of the monster, which does not work out. By the end of the film, the main character is backed up on a ledge, while the monster creeps towards it. Group Blog (2022/23)

   I would like to do my A-level film in a group. Last year, I expressed my uncertainty on the topic of groups. I stated how I often found it easier to work by myself because you have full control over all the components of the project. I went on to say "You do not have to rely on other people, and you will not be dragged down if they forget their work". I remember stating that there was no clear answer, but this year, I have come to a conclusion. I decided that the best way to go is to put my trust in the abilities of my group mates. I would like to partner with Max, Jibril, and Alec because I believe it will make creating the film easier. Max is someone who can point me in the right direction. We have been in many of the same classes over the last couple years and we have gotten along very well.
