Genre Research: Stowaway

 

  • There was a lot of suspense in this film which I believe we should try to do the same in our movie. Using music, we could put watchers on the edge of their seats just like they did in Stowaway. There were also realistic and innovative props and settings that were used in this film. As well as the use of their costumes.  

  • Stowaway was highly Music oriented, and I would like to do this in our movie too. There were also great props because it was like they made the whole ship one big prop throughout the movie. There was also the fact that Stowaway only had 4 actors on screen the entire movie. I believe this contributed to the lonely feeling of the movie. They truly didn’t have help and were on their own up there. 

  • In the beginning of the movie during the ship launch, there was very shaky camera movement, and I don’t think that this could be useful to us. There won’t be any intense scenes with lots of movement in our film. One thing that I didn’t like was that there were very basic camera angles. I had a hard time seeing what they were trying to portray through them, and I want to make it easy for our audience, so they understand our movie.

Filming Pt 2

  Today in class, our group finished filming for our project. We went to the media center and recorded our final segments. After that, we went out to the field to help some classmates film their project. Their project was on converse shoes and they used many shots showing how versatile they are. In one of the shots that I helped them record, Sydni held a football while Lily kicked it. Lilly's kick was way off, but the shot was only of her foot hitting the ball and not about where the ball went. While filming, we discussed with the other group different techniques and styles to use while filming. Once done with helping them, we talked about how we could improve our commercial. we stayed outside for at least an hour. It got to a point where we could not bear the heat any longer. We headed back inside and finalized the selection of shots to keep. We will edit the commercial next class.

Planning Blog Short Film

Props: Our film will be a thriller, meaning our props will need to both fit the scene, and be a source of action. Because the film starts off with a news report, we will need a TV. The main character will also need a phone as it will play a key role in an important turning point of the film. The antagonist of the film will also have some sort of weapon to give them more credibility as an antagonist. Costumes: The costumes of the film are important, because we will not be relying on the audience recognizing faces. Instead of this, we will detail what the main antagonist of the film is wearing in a news report, and rely on the audience, remembering that, as that will be all that is shown. The costumes of the other cast members it’s not as important, but it must still be appropriate to the film and the genre. Title Research: Terminator Salvation

  The titles that are displayed are producers, the production company, the title of the film, the sound and video company, and the director. The title also mentioned the names of people under the title of “common” but I'm not entirely sure what that is. After researching what it meant I couldn’t find anything about it on the internet. The title also showed the names of the main characters and a few of the side characters The title sequence showed a lot of close-up images of technology which has a connection to the robots throughout the film. The camera was also very dim during these images. This could have been done to avoid showing too much and giving away the events in the movie. My other theory is that it was done to force the watcher to focus on a specific pa r t o f th e i m a g e in o r d e r t o give a slight hint or create suspens e as Ter m i n a t o r c o n t a i n s slight horror aspects.
