Production Blog: Editing One

The final step in my production of the film is editing. During the editing process, I need to make sure that the film is good enough to show. This means that I have to look at all the clips that we have taken and find the best ones. Once I found the best ones, I need to make sure that they are all adding up to the right amount of time so that I am not over the time limit. Once I have the right clips, I need to shorten them down. This way, the time between dialogue, while the camera was still rolling will not be included. And I still need to leave a little bit of room before and after the dialogue, so that I can add in transitions. As of right now, I am planning on mostly doing jump cuts, but if possible, I would like to experiment with other types of transitions. Once the transitions are done, I need to add in any effects. The biggest effect that I need to add will be the light from the spaceship that picks up one of my group members. As of right now, we hung a flashlight over her head to give this impression. Hopefully, I can find an effect in editing software that looks good enough. I will also need to find a sound that can represent the beam pulling her up. I will need to find a sound that the ship makes while hovering as well. After this next step, I need to digitally alter the sound so that the audience can hear the dialogue. This is an issue because when we were filming, a lot of noise from cars, AC units, and airplanes can be heard. as well as editing out sounds, I will need to edit out any other distractions. In one of the scenes, there is an object that was too heavy to physically remove. Therefore, I need to digitally remove it., By making these adjustments to the film, I hope to improve the quality of the film, making it easier to watch, and hopefully, meet all the criteria that I need to.
