My Group Blog


 

I would like to do my media studies commercial in a group. Throughout my school years, I have (and still am) unsure whether to work in a group. I often find it is easier to work by yourself because you have full control over all the components of the project. You do not have to rely on other people, and you will not be dragged down if they forget their work. I do not believe there ever has or ever will be a clear winner in this argument because there are benefits to each side. Once again, I put my trust in the abilities of my group mates. I would like to partner with Trevor and Ayden because I believe it will make creating a commercial easier. For a large-scale example, notice how at the end of every movie, there is an incredibly long list of people. Even though it is possible to brainstorm, storyboard, film, edit, reshoot, etc. by one's self, it is much easier to work in a group. When it comes to projects, I am like a cannon. I require assistance getting pointed in the right direction, but once I know what I’m doing, can work hard. Ayden is someone who can do that. We have worked on many projects together since fourth grade. He has, and presumably will keep track of what elements need to be included and help with the design process. Considering that I have a little bit of artistic talent, I will likely be doing the storyboard and help to record the commercial. Trevor will likely be helping with miscellaneous tasks and help both Ayden and I with editing. We have not however discussed what the commercial will be for. I think that this group will be beneficial for all of us. It will help us strengthen our individual media skills. And if it doesn’t work out, at least we don’t have to work together all year.

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie

  The first short film to analyze, is 9 by Shane Acker. The film is about a rag doll who lives in a miniature junkyard. In the beginning of the film, the main character is working with a friend to get a lightbulb to work. While doing this, a monster is shown to be working in the shadows. The main characters friend notices and tells the main character to run as they stay behind to fight off the beast. The main character turns around to watch their friend, get easily overpowered and killed by the monster. This monster then turns its attention to the main character, chasing it until the main character can get out of sight for a few seconds. At this point, the main character devise is a trap to jump on top of the monster, which does not work out. By the end of the film, the main character is backed up on a ledge, while the monster creeps towards it. In this moment, the main character jumps, causing the balance of the plank to shift, sending the monster into a long fall. At the end, the...

Group Blog (2022/23)

   I would like to do my A-level film in a group. Last year, I expressed my uncertainty on the topic of groups. I stated how I often found it easier to work by myself because you have full control over all the components of the project. I went on to say "You do not have to rely on other people, and you will not be dragged down if they forget their work". I remember stating that there was no clear answer, but this year, I have come to a conclusion. I decided that the best way to go is to put my trust in the abilities of my group mates. I would like to partner with Max, Jibril, and Alec because I believe it will make creating the film easier. Max is someone who can point me in the right direction. We have been in many of the same classes over the last couple years and we have gotten along very well.
